L DICKER 1959 Trees there is a very local scrubby vegetation. I set 20 traps in the brush along the river edge (the river is dry except for occasional pools) + 15 traps in thick brush back from the River bed. While we were setting up camps (before dusk) we noticed quite a few large Sigurdson moving around through the brush. I set 3 net traps + a Schleyer for them, & Dave & Ned also set a number of traps for them. At dusk there was a brief flight of about half a doz Myotis velifer & Dave shot 1. After dark other bats were heard. Ned shot a screech owl. Dave set 3 steel sets for skunk, I by a burrow (he also smelled a skunk & found several skunk droppings). Saw Black cr. right before fly out in evening. Were many loud tailed Grackles around camp & once Dave. There was also a pair of Ravens which acted as if they were roosting in one of the trees near camp. Heard heavy rain during night. Heard Barn Owl after dark. July 15 Catch: Batscamp - 1, Peromyscus maniculatus - 2, + Mus musculus - about 5. Dave got 1 sp Sigurdson hispidus & a Rithrodontomys. The large Sigurdson seem to be trap wary or uninterested in the bait (cornmeal + peanut butter) so they were often heard around the traps, but didn't go into them. Saw 2 more night heron which sounded like Black-crowns. Skunk animals a lake camp about noon. Hooked for Azoresclects. No gopher signs at all seen at this camp. Arrived at Azurescle
