DICKER 1959 16. what we were doing & then continued to writing about 1/2 mi. of the canyon mouth & set up camp against the E cliffs where we found a small water hole. Set out 66 traps in Agave plus thickets + willow thickets with some open area. Camp is about 7.8 mi. by road E of La Veta (5 mi. N Cuenca Compa, 5600 ft., Chihuahua, Mexico). At dusk saw quite a few Pipistrellus hesperis. I shot 1, Starker shot 1, & Dave got 1. Hit rock about 2 1/2. June 28 Run traps. Had my 1 Paromopus immaculatus Blonder, although many traps were empty. Saw coyote track & small tracks of what was probably Bassariscus which had dug into a gopher mound - the gopher re-plugging the hole. Skinned maniculate + Pipistrellus & the rest 12 gopher sets (20 traps). After got a pair of Lucifer Hummingbird, a Orchard Oriole & a S Hawked Oriole. After seeing the S Lucifer I feel sure that the hummer I saw on June 25 at the Syracosam-trapping area was also a Lucifer. After skinning catch of pipistrelle from last night & skinned a curve billed thrasher which Starker shot & the ran my gopher traps. Had 2 gophers, skinned these. Set out 35 traps along rock canyon wall near camp & a few in grassy area down the rim. Had a light rain through much of late afternoon. Relaid the lines of 66 traps = Agave plus etc. & set four more net traps for lipo. At dusk shot 1 Pipistrelle
