J DICKER 1959 June 26 a gray fox in one of his lion sets. I saw a pair of Mavis Quail on ridge while returning to camp at dusk. Took truck & picked up Sigman traps + gopher traps at "conference". Catch: nada. Returned to camp & walked to canyon. Both skunks set had been set OK but caught nothing. One had been dragged the full length of the chain. Caught 2 Peromyscus along rock out cropping in canyon (1872 + 1873), 1873 was caught in a wood rat set. Had 3 more Peromyscus in traps on ridge + 1 in one of wood rats sets near to camp. Picked up all traps. Nothing in traps nor prairie dogs & nothing in gopher traps below prairie dogs. Ward had collected & wrapped myfantis - steel trap set for bobcat near camp. Skinned catch & lots from last night. At dusk went down to prairies to shoot bobs but couldn't get any. 3+ rags seen. June 27 Packed up camp & left at about 0930. Ward caught a bobcat in a #3 trap by prairie dog had dragged trap & large rock try completely through the yard & was c muddy, exhausted mess when we found it. Got gas in nearby town - Colonia Santa Clara & headed back thru Santa Clara Canyon toward Chilietas. At crest of canyon saw two white-tailed deer. Shortly after this we began seeing C. variegatus + chipmunks. Stopped i village of La Varas to tell commissario
