LIDICKER 1959 Squidron, Rattlers, etc. Saw one or 2 finely marked runner-up which was probably made by Squidron. After dinner set new line of traps (32 incl. 3 sets for Weston) along canyon wall - rocky outcrops. Had 1 Squidron minimus in trap 4 group of 4 - guess set for since (June 20th) but was a trap which had been empty only every for 3 days in a row, last time in morning - also Squidron has still alive although caught by shell - so has recently caught. This all suggests a late afternoon activity period. Relisted 27 traps along canyon bottom. Steel trap at end of this line had been spring & dragged & had small track of C. variegatus for in it. I reset it also. Also set 4 Mm. Pfen. along cliffs & reset 2 old Weston sets. Did not visit Newton's set next to stunk set. Saw pair of Mason Quail - flushed from open grazing area. Checked traps now positive after dark; saw lots of crickets and nothing else. June 24 Caught 1 Brownpea (boyii?) along canyon rim nothing in bottom, no wood rats from agave thickets or no shrubs. Picked up traps from canyon bottom. Picked up all wool rat traps in agave but 1 set was yesterday & made 5 new sets (total of 6 sets); also picked up rat trap near stunk set. Shot 1 Canyon Wren. Was got a holcat in one of his burin sets & a nuttier in another. The holcat had part of a C. variegatus & a Newton's in its stomachs. Skinned catch.
