DICKER 1959 (April 3 cont.) Painted - 30+ Shoveller - 120+ Less Scaup - 25+ Reddy Duck - sw. Turkey Vult. - 1 Red H. Hawk - 1 Western Sandpiper - num. Dowitcher - 40+ Cost - num. Near El Mayo we saw a Black nk. Stilt & a pair of Cinnamon Teal. We crossed the border at Mexicali & drove north to Brawley where we stopped for dinner (No trouble crossing border). We continued N on US 99 to Kern Sps & then took Calif. 78 to Yaqini Well where we camped. Quite windy in evening. April 4 Morning overcast & moderately windy; pleasantly cool. We tried sand camp for a short while & saw: Plain Teela - very few. Plumbers Snedcatcher - 1 Mockingbird - many House Finches - com. Land & few quail There seems to be much more dips sign around Yaqini Well than the was last year at this time. We also saw a dips (mexicani) in the headlights last night as we were approaching the well. Continued on 78 to Julian. Picked up a Cistellus Beecheyi DOR 1.5 mi. by rd. SE of Wynaola. This was just below the fire belt in small oak &
