It was dark by the time we got to the
Swine Point, but we could see large sand dunes
on the north end of this range. We had some
trouble finding a place to camp, but we finally
stopped & set 31 traps after dark. This was
in a very gravelly area with very scattered
vegetation; some silt in cracks, etc. There was
only a little old sign of small mammal activity.
Part of the area appeared as if it had been
bubblozed some time ago.
April 1
Picked up traps; caught nothing & there were
no indication of any activity. There was also no
birds in this area - 1 possible House Finch flew
by in AM; no hawks seen. I skinned the
two animals gutted yesterday & we left camp
about 0840. Further S in the mountains we
watched a Marsh Hawk come in from over the
flats to the east (quite high for a Marsh Hawk)
& climb up the nest. To the west, dive on a
Red-tal. Hawk which was sitting on the crest
of the nest. & apparently feeding on something. They both
