LIDICKER 1959 (Mar. 31 cont.) Laguna Salada starts & extends all the way to the north end of the Saino Prieta. There does not seem to be any good dips habitat on the east side of the main road from the beginning of flooded area N of El Mayor to the north end of the Saino Prieta. There was considerable water in the bar pits along the road & in some cases in shallow ponds further back from the road, but for the most part the Laguna Salada consisted of dried mud extending as far as one could see to the east [illegible] that far to the west. There were large numbers of birds & some mosquitoes around & the shallow ponds were covered with insects. On this stretc~ (9.5 mi. S La Puerta to N end Saino Prieta) we saw the following birds: Killdeer - 10 Least Sandpiper - 5+ Lesser Sandp - 9 Pied Bl Grebe - 1 Coot - 60+ Shawny egret - 30+ Western Sandpiper-350+ Vermillion Flycatcher-2 Red-wing - see.
