(July 26 cont.) US 89 to Tucson, Country slopes N very gradually from S of Tubac to vicinity of Continental. At the Pima Co. line the habitat is still fairly grassy, but is changing very gradually. N of the Co. line it seems almost like typical monsoon habitat, but are still some grassier areas. We took Ariz. 84 to Ariz. * 87 to Coolidge & then Mesa. US 60 + 70 to Blythe. Got dark between Wickenburg & Aguila. We continued W of Blythe & finally camped ~ 2/3 of the way to Desert Center. July 27 Had breakfast in Indio, took US 99 to Colton & then US 91 north to Jct. with US 395. Took this to Jct. with 466 & then US 466 to Bakersfield where we had lunch. Took US 99 to Modesto, Calif. 132 + 33 to US 50 near Tracy. Had dinner in Tracy, continued W to Calif. 21 to Walnut Creek & finally Calif. 24 to Berkeley. We got in about 21:30. Speedometer reading 20135 making a total of 5387 miles traveled. Payments to U.C. garage were $275.48 plus $1.95 for stolen tire & $1.90 for tube. Total = $292.38
