a green jay or a purplish-backed jay. We continued N of A caporeta & into Sinaloa. We camped 7 mi. SSE Escuinapa. Collected a byrid and a pointed-nouted Bups around camp.
July 25
We had a rather miserable night between the heat, high humidity, & mosquitoes. We broke camp early & continued N. Peter saw a red-eyed cowbird around camp. 1.7 mi S of Escuinapa we saw another gt. blue bron & .8 mi from Escuinapa we saw a quail which had a scaly back & seemed dark brown all over. 8.9 mi N Escuinapa - gt. bl. Bron. 5.9 mi. S Agua Caliente we saw a large dark quail with a dark tufted head, dark bill, & with white throat. 4.5 mi. S Villa Union we saw another yellow-winged cacique & 1.2 mi further - down by Flycatcher. 10.4 mi N Villa Union we observed a Shary Egret along the road. We continued N of Mazatlan & about 30 mi. NNW Mazatlan (34.7 mi. S by road Cosala turnoff) & 17.4 mi by rd. N of Tropic of Cancer) we picked up a turtle on the road. 21 mi. further on we got a good look at a Buteo vitidus. 27.8 mi. S Culiacan saw what appeared to be a Dombel's Pseuil. 13.9 mi S Culiacan saw a group of Black Vultures. @ Culiacan we bought a few fruits in the market & had lunch on N side of town. 40.4 mi. N Culiacan I saw a large magpie-like jay with a long
