LIDICKER 1958 (July 22 cont.) (km 1) there is a jollazo. km 18 - nice looking [illegible] again; km 20 - spectabilis monda. 13.8 mi. from jct. is town of Santa Maria Gallardo. Still rolling hills with good desert in this area. 1.9 mi. beyond St. M. Gallardo we came to Presa del Llevoso. Beyond this the road follows fairly closely a river valley which is to the N - has cottonwoods along banks, etc. 18.3 mi. from the jct. we came to Viudas de Oriente. Beyond this (km 31-32) there is excellent open desert. By km 33 it gets a little thicker with some mulepas. 22.1 mi. from jct. (km 35) there is a gravel road going S. Km. 37 - strike. 24.7 mi. from jct. is town of Molino Viejo. Beyond this, km. 41.5 seems to be about the highest point on the rd. At km 42 is gravel road going N. 29.3 mi from jct. is Chisosatono (Zac.). Half a mi. beyond here we learned that we were in Zacatecas so we turned around & returned to the vicinity of km. marker 31 to camp. This was 1/1 mi. [illegible] E of Viudas de Oriente (1 mi. N of Viuda de Oriente, 11 mi. SE Rincon de Romo). Set out 92 traps in desert around camp. Head 1 bat in the evening. Just after dusk it began to pour & it continued to pour with strong winds most of night. Peter & I spent well over an hour ditching & draining the tent which was not in a particularly low place. After dinner I ran all my traps & reset them.
