LIDICKER 1958 (July 14 cont.) Eng. Sparrow Noticed Bourgainviller on some house near the river. We broke camp & returned to Colivillos. About 3 mi. W Colivillos we saw what was probably a Scotto' Oriole. Once in Colivillos we headed N on & a dirt road to La Labor. About 2.4 mi. N of town we saw a grayish ground squirrel with a short scruffy tail run across the road. About 3 mi. N of Colivillos we saw Golden fr. Woodpecks & Dove Doves & 1 mi. further - Phainoptilus. We followed a river valley for awhile & had to ford the river 4 or 5 times. 5.2 mi. N Colivillos we saw 2 Citellus wongatus run across the road. We camped 9 mi by road N Colivillo near the Rio Larco. This is about 1 km. S La Labor & is where the road crosses from the E to W side of the valley & fords the rio. After spending some time hunting for conejos with a mexicano we set out 100 trap: 30 in a wooded canyon, 25 along a rock wall with tall herbaceous veg. along it, 5 in tall veg. along rd., 20 on wooded slope & 20 on grassy & gravelly slope behind camp - with scattered shrubs (include 5 traps along rock wall). Head a few hrs after dark, but saw none in evening. Caught 1 Byto in camp after dark.
