LIDICKER
1958
(July 13 cont.)
A canyon off to the left with almost woodland type
of vegetation. 1.8 mi. further the road descends; the
vegetation here consists of scattered tall shrubs
with much grass & herbaceous vegetation on the
ground. 1.2 mi. still further there are a few semi-
cacti on the hillside to the left, a large valley
to the NW ahead. This large valley no longer looks
like dips country - not even ornatus. The vegetation
is thick, but there are still yuccas & prickly pears,
also much oak & other broad leaved trees; slope
to left could almost be called a woodland.
7/10 of mi. E & N a joblote (km. 38) which is
probably Baguillo, there is a small lake to the N.
Near the town we saw a Kildeer. About 6 mi.
beyond the town the road begins to descend again
into another large valley to the W. 4 mi. W of the
town above is another town. Here we noticed House
Finches. Calvillo is 4.1 mi. beyond this last town.
We continued beyond Calvillo about 5.5 mi. where
we turned N on a dirt road which descended 8/10
mi. to a river which we forded & began to climb
up the other side. Here we met Pedro de Loera
who apparently lives most of his time in Sary,
Durango, but owns orchards in this area etc. He
spoke a little English. With him was "Tito"
Alberto Martinez who owns a tienda on the main
plaza in Calvillo, & several others. We chatted
