LIDICKER
1958
July 4
Broke camp & then jicked up traps. Catch:
Peromyscus truei - 8 ; also saw 1 jav.
running around in daylight ; saved only 6
adults - these gutted.
We also caught another Thamnophis. The
gas station at El Salto was out of gas so we
looked for Durango on about 1/2 tank; "replenish
overdrive" got me in. In Durango we bought
supplies & looked up the local representative of
our insurance co. to see if we could retrieve
anything on a new tire stolen at Mil Dios.
No luck - our policy excepted all theft except the
whole car. We headed south at 1715. The
desert in this area consists of high shrub with
little to much grass. At about 15 mi. S Durango
the road starts to climb a little; here there is much
crevetail, scattered mesquite & the hills are quite
rocky. At 2.5 mi. N Nombre de Dios the road
goes down into a huge valley where there is a
river & a small town. This valley does not look
like serranai habitat. At 4.6 mi. S Nombre de
Dios the shrubs become well spaced & this might
possibly be serranai habitat but there is considerable
short grass. 5.6 mi. S Nombre de Dios ( 5 1/2 mi.
SE N de D) I shot a Citellas. At 17.8 mi. by
rd, from N de Dios we went off on a side road to
