LIDICKER 1958 (July 2 cont.) Mephitis mephitis - 1 (caught in rat trap by [foot]). Dr PM we went back & reset & baited these 82 traps; saw another rock squirrel on the S ridge of the canyon. Then set 30 traps along a rocky ledge in the pine forest SW of camp (I had seen chipmunks here before & shot 1 on July 1). Heard rats in evening, but wasn't able to get any. Marlo caught a large alligator lizard during PM. July 3 Catch: canyon (1 1/2 mi. NW Mil Dies) Neotoma - 2 (1 yy.) Sorex - 2 Peromyscus sp. 2 - 2 (1 yy. released). 30 traps nr. camp - Peromyscus sp 1 - 1 Peromyscus sp 3 - 2 (large, thick tailed; from rocky outcrop - one had pulled trap over 100 ft down the slope; the other had pulled trap way back into hole in rock). Shot 1 yy. Strylilogus. On the way back for trapsite N of Mil Dies I shot a rock squirrel at 1 mi. NNW Mil Dies. After skiing around Marlo & I drove into El Salto for water & then we continued E to find a new trapsite. We turned N off main rd. on to a dirt road to some Nelsonia
