LIDICKER

on the W side of camp + an excellent flycatcher
with a prominent crest (which turned out to
be Contopus pertinax). I also sketched a
eye cottontail which a missionary had given
me.
June 30 (cont.) - Dr PM, Marler + I drove N of
Mil Drias as far as we could & then walked
further. We were looking for San Juan & the
trench grass habitat of Xerochryza. We finally
found what has to be the spot & explored it
thoroughly - interrupted by occasional rain
showers. Although we saw lots of Striped
Sparrus we saw no Xerochryza.
July 1 (cont.) - We went back N of Mil Drias &
while Marler walked N to the trench-grass
area to record, I set traps along the side
of a beautiful canyon on the W side of the
bridge over a large rushing stream where we
saw a Water Ouzel. The walls of this canyon
are covered with quite lush vegetation
including Cornus. I set 50 traps on the
S side of the stream & 32 on the N. Also
saw a Catillus variegatus just N of the bridge.
