After skimming we broke camp & continued S.
4.7 mi. beyond Camp rd. begins to descend into
large valley, reaches bottom 2 miles further.
Saw sev. Wh. nk. Ravens. By 9.5-mi beyond camp
you are in possible merriami country again. 4
mi. further veg gets thicker again with low shrubs
& ocotillos. This may be merriami habitat but
seems a little first thick. 4 mi. still further
the road goes thru a small ridge & into an open
grassy plain with scattered low shrubs trees. 3 mi.
further (.8 mi. N San Juan del Rio) the country becomes
scrubby, open, & very gravelly. 1.6 mi S San Juan
del Rio # agricultural areas begin ; West th. Cerros.
About 10 mi. S San J.del Rio an area begins &
stretches for 5 mi. with abundant beaver tail cactus.
Then there is open plain country again with widely
scattered shrubs. At about 1 mi. N Cerro
Zardo we stopped to eat lunch along the
road & shot 1 ground squirrel. Saw a Red-wing
