offroad Peloncillo Mts. there is heavy Larrea
cover with some yucca + agave; slopes
of ints. drier [illegible] Also dry on E slope
which descends into desert which seems al
drier than that on W side - more cactus + ocotillo.
W of Lordsburg it becomes grassy with few
shrubs. Stopped in Lordsburg to get left rear wheel
bearing replaced - From Lordsburg -> Deming:
law scattered shrubs + quite dry. E of Deming:
flat, noticed a stand of Larrea this is fairly
open with grass + widely scattered mesquite! E
of Akela gets drier with lots of yucca.
Continued S to El Paso & after loading a few
supplies we went thru customs & into Juarez.
By this time it was about 2000. We
changed some money in Juarez & continued S.
It began raining in Juarez & continued intermittally
all night; we camped just off the train rd.
just N of old camp at 5 3/4 mi N Sanluyca.
Didn't set any traps.
June 21
Coach's Knightrail at camp + possibly a Myrarchus;
also / Swainson's Hawk. Left camp & continued
S 30 mi N Villa Ahumada - noticed H. Larks.
At 12 mi N V.A. saw a Myiochus tuberculifer &
pi. putter & skrike. S of Villa Al. we saw-
a Citellus stalozone . Just S Moctezuma
