LIDICKER 1958 (April 3 cont.) Then we returned to Acotillo & the dirt rd. toward Vallecito Valley. We stopped a Box Willow Canyon Range Sta. to ask about La Puerta Valley. But the Ranger had never heard of it so we left & went back a short distance to where a dirt rd. took off to the South. We decided to follow it & it turned out that it went into Carizzo Canyon. We followed this 4 wheel dr. rd. ~ 5.6 mi. S into Carizzo Canyon. The road was very muddy in some places & deep sand in others. Saw 1 wood runner along way. We finally came to some real muddy places & had to stop. Got the wagon to rain again & the wind to blow so we made camp between 2 mesquite trees in the partial protection of a low ridge. We had to carry our equipment a short way from the car to camp. Camp = Carizzo Canyon, 6.9 mi. S, 3/10 mi. & Mountain Palm Springs. Set 73 trap around camp - mostly in sandy wash area, but also on rocky slopes. Was a little dipso sign. Rained & wind blew most of night. April 4 Catch: Dipodomys merriami - 1 Perognathus - 2 Perognathus penicillatus - 3 P. longimembris - 1 Perognathus eximius - 11
