LIDICKER 1958 (AND 2 cont.) Scattered large clumps of shrubs - much grass in between; no sign of anything. Then we returned W & set trap between the highway & the railroad 1 mi E W Jacumba. This was the area just E of where the RR & highway become separated by hills. This looked the best of all the area set & had a small unit of dipos sign. We stayed in a Motel - Jacumba as it was very cold, windy, & it rained most of night. April 3 Catch: 1/4 mi. S Jacumba - Dipodomys agilis - 1 Jacumba - Wh. cr. Sparrow - 1 1 mi. W Jacumba - Dipodomys agilis - 1 Peromyscus maniculatus - 4 3 mi. NW " - Nestoma leucola - 1 P. maniculatus - 2 P. eremicus - 5 After skimming most of our catch we headed back down the mt. to the E. It was evidently still raining & blowing when we left ~ 1130. We continued on US 80 into El Centro where we had lunch & bought some groceries. The irrigation & agricultural area starts 12 mi. W of the El Centro city limits. Just W. of El Campo we saw 15+ Hudsonian Curlews 50+ Ring N. Gulls & a large flock of Red-wings.
