a dirt rd. turnoff just W of the Carlsbad Canyon
turnoff. After a short way N the road turned
E in the creek led by Carrizo Creek. After
sev. miles we came back as hard rain & wind
came up again. We returned to within a few
tenths of a mile of the main rd. & camped along
a fence (2 1/4 mi. S, 3 3/4 mi. E Agua Caliente). We
set 65 trap just E of camp. This area is very good
& excellent merriami habitat. It rained & the
wind blew hard practically all night.

Catch: Dipodomys merriami - 3
Perognathus longimembris -1 (alive)
One of the merriamis had both forded stuffed
mostly with green stuff including leaves, flower
buds & sim. seeds; there were also a few mature
seeds. At camp we saw Verdin (Conn.) including
a nest with young, West. Bratcatcher -1, House finch,
a Crissal's or LeConte' Thrasher, resident.
Hummer - sev. violet green swallows ?- 1. The day
before we had seen in the rain a large flock of
whitish shore bird-like creature. After skinning
our small catch we continued E. Saw a shrike
a short way just camp. Road veers southward
toward the mts. & Sweeney Canyon. Vallecitos
Valley (Carrizo Valley) opens to eastward into
Imperial Valley. At 1.2 mi. beyond Box Willow
