At 7 mi. from turnoff small junipers begin to show up & these become thicker for the next 1/2 mi. Doesn't look like desert country. As we came through Blair Valley it began raining again.
1 1/2 mi. further the valley is narrowing slightly but still descending. At 9 mi. from turnoff we entered Box canyon which has steep hills on both sides - considerable travel cactus. By 9.4 mi. the way begins to look more arid again although there is still much grass but the junipers are gone. At 9.8 mi. the road begins to enter a huge valley with high ints directly to the south (Mason Valley). At 10.3 mi. there is cholla again, lots of agave, Larrea & a little ocotillo. At 11.0 mi. leave Park. At 12.7 mi. way is almost pure Larrea with short grass carpet in between. By 13.4 mi. however, other types of veg. are again present. At 13.7 entering another pass which seems pretty low, but is rocky (Santworth Range). At 13.8 road drops quickly into Vallecito Valley - lots of ocotillo, cholla & small shrub. At 18.5 mi. we entered Vallecito Stage Sta. 1 mi beyond Vallecito the Park begins again. Here the amt. of grass between the shrubs had diminished. 4.2 mi. beyond Vallecito we came to Agua Caliente.
