IDICKER 1958 (April 1 cont.) saw Phtherson Gral cactile -1, Cedar Waxwing - ~20, Plainoplele - com. resident. hummers see. Horse bird - abund., Wk cr. Sparrow - abund & Hooded Oriole ?-1 (lead singing). After skinning our catch we broke camp & briefly visited Yaqini Well. Were about 100 Cedar Waxwings around well also saw Western Flycatcher -1. We went back through Sentences Canyon & went SE on dirt rd. just beyond Scissor Crossing, into Earthquake Valley. 8/10 mi. from turnoff about more Lavrea comes in, no ocotillo, almost no cactus, no Barrel cactus, some mesquite. the whole valley gives an entirely different appearance than the Yaqini Well & Borrego valleys. Were also about 7 annual flowers blooming with much grass, bolt carpeted & bunches. 2.1 mi. further, an occasional Joshua Tree was seen. 4.5 mi. from turnoff was Park boundary. At 5.9 mi. from turnoff rd. goes through a pass which would seem to be at least a partial barrier to remnants (very rocky) ocotillos on one side of the pass. At 6 mi. from turnoff pass leads into another valley which is much like the valley just left - [illegible] some veg., etc. This is undoubtedly Blair Valley. At 6.4 mi. is Blair Valley Ranger Sta. There are a few more century plants, but otherwise way much the same. Elevation descending gradually.
