LIDICKER
1958.
(Mar 30 cont.)
For mariani return. Around Warner Springs the
soil is quite reddish; saw a few Lark Sparrows.
About 4 mi further we joined with rd going
directly to Scissors Crossing thru San Felipe
Valley. We turned off on this road. At 9 mi, above
Scissors Crossing is the San Felipe Maintenance Stn.
At 4 mi, above Crossing we started to see a few
(saw killdeer)
Joshua trees. We drove to Crossing then turned
around & went back 6 mi. to dirt road which
turned off to S & went along San Felipe Creek. We
camped a short way down this road (5 1/2 mi. N
Banner, San Felipe Valley). Set out 64 traps
mostly on shrub covered slope N of camp; also
2 gopher traps. The valley itself was fairly green
& had probably been cultivated, but the slopes looked
like fair mariani habitat & there was some sign
that just. [illegible] was remaining. The shrubs were
mixed & mostly unidentified, but Adenostoma was
present & dominated in some areas (but was not real
tell). Was cold, windy, & rainy during sites
