June 30}{July 1} ½ mi. S Donner Pass - This nest s both adults photographed (16 mm. color movie) by Dr. Lloyd G. Ingles, and (in stills) by Audubon campers.
It was reported to contain eggs, as judged by actions of ♀, on July 1 yet.
July 3 near Sugar Bowl Lodge, 7000 ft. [see p.] - I ♂ seen at range of 10 ft., as he perched a few feet from wet ground in the willow thickets of "Cogswell Meadow". He had apparently been feeding on something (or drinking?) very close to the ground, & soon flew far away into conifers N of the meadow.
July 4 ½ mi. S Donner Pass - The NEST described on June 29 now holds 3 young, which I climbed a nearby tree to see. Both adults came to the nest late in p.m., but ♀ settled on the young without feeding them. Hatched between July 1 & 4, probably close to former two because of size of
July 7 Both adults seen feeding the young in the nest, once both of them perched on nest rim at the same time, altho the ♂ finished & left before the ♀. (late p.m. again - just before sunset).
July 13 Both adults seen feeding nestlings - between 11:00 & 12:00 a.m. (PDST) they came twelve, one time both together. Geo. Treichel has notes on feeding activities of this pair at the nest on about this date. Young gone from nest on July 17.
July 17 Sugar Bowl Lodge, 700 ft. 1.2 mi. SSW Donner Pass. Glacier Co. Calft
2 flew over forest & meadow together, calling in flight.
July 20 Sugar Bowl Lodge to bottom of "Sugar Bowl"; ½ mi. SSE of X, 734y. 2 heard singing on early a.m. visit; 1 ♂ seen feeding short-tailed fledglings in p.m.
