Cogswell 1950 "Journal" 10 Job's Sister (peak), NNW to W slopes of, 9200-10,600 ft. (peak = 10,820 ft.), Carson Range, Eldorado & Alpine Co. boundary, Calif. -- approx. 8 mi. SE Lake Tahoe. VEG. TYPES: alpine fall-fields similar to those on adjacent Freel Peak (q.v.); high, more or less rectangularly broken cliffs; krummholz (Pinus albi- caulis); subalpine conifer forest (Pinus albicaulis, plus, at the lower altitudes, Tsuga mertensiana). VISIT: July 23. (See Leucosticte tephrocotis) Lake Tahoe, 6229 ft., Calif. & Nevada -- descriptions of the few spots visited on foot are given under more detailed localities below. Circuit of the lake by automobile was made on July 9; the W. side & S. end also on Aug. 6; the E. side (both coming & going to High Meadow, Freel Peak, etc.) on July 23. A few entries are made under certain bird species which were observed in the forests and/or chaparral areas along the roads around the lake. Lake Tahoe, S. end of, 6230 ft. (E. of Camp Richardson), Eldorado Co., Calif. -- area covered included a bit of upland forest near Camp Richardson (while at lunch) and marsh & beach E. of Camp Richardson in Sec. 6 & 5 (2 mi. sections N*S), R 12 N, T 18 E. VEG. TYPES: conifer forest (Pinus murrayana, in pure stand on high part of beach & similar sandy areas, elsewhere admixed with Pinus jeffreyi & Abies concolor) tall sedge marsh (with water to 3+ ft. deep); wet grass land & low sedge marsh; sandy beach; large, deep lake VISIT: July 9. Lake Tahoe, "enroute" past N. end of, -- including lower part of Mt. Rose Road (Nevada Route 27) above Incline, & W. from Incline to Kings Beach, thence N toward Martis Valley. VEG. TYPES: coniferous forest, dense except where cleared or where adjacent to riparian groves or thick- ets near lake shore in a few spots -- in most of this distance the conifers extend clear to lake shore. (Pinus jeffreyi, Pinus lambertiana, Abies concolor, Libocedrus decurens with understory of Ceanothus cordulatus, Arctostaphylos patula, Prunus emarginata, Salix nuttallii, etc.) (riparian: Populus tremuloides Populus trichocarpa near Kings Beach); golf course; large, deep lake.
