They look so uncoordinated on land - making short quick steps and looking top-heavy. Song Sparrows around in the island. Large flocks of Cormorants rest out on the sand banks at low tide - all that have flown over my head to date here have been Double-crested Cormorants.

Of the pairs visible in the landing area, there are 9 WG x WG, 2 Hy x Hy and 1 GWC x GWC. More later. Other birds I have seen here on East Sand Island (Clatsop Co., Oregon; or Chinook, WA) are: tree swallows, marsh harriers - saw a male on two days - may even have located possible nest site - in one of the willow thicket areas. The bird flew out of a grassy, yet clear ground area inbetween thickets and waste-high grass. This area on the south eastern end, near middle of the lower dredge-spill plateau. Possible Lewis's gull. Also - Mallards, Killdeer and today, 19 Brown Pelicans.
Went collecting in this area. I am trying to not overly disturb the nesting gulls - so I shoot from areas of the island that have few or no nests. This includes most of the dredge-spill area in the middle of the island and the higher-level of deep dredge-spill on the eastern end; by chance collected 2 GWC's and 1 WC (#88 204-206).
Spent most of day doing the gulls from Today & yesterday. Towards evening I carried half my stuff to the drop point. Counted 169 upset gulls on the NE island corner, mostly in driftwood/beach habitat + grass. This is the area
