DATE: MAY 26, 1987
LOCATION: Phelps Ranch, m. Garberville, So. Humboldt Co., Calif.
Rode out to Goat Rock w/ Todd & Maren in jeep. Ravens,
meadowlarks, starlings, bluebirds around. At rock saw sed-
crested Nuthatch. No sign of falcons, sat on rock for 1/2 hour
(10:00 am). Talked about John Benbow, [illegible] Mark Boar.
When we left the rock we heard a scream -> drove down
the road to south of rock - saw a falcon - twiced
zip over the hills at grass level fast. After 1/2 couple
minutes saw another adult falcon on snag at rock. Same
bird? We drove up to the rock - got a great view of
the falcon - thick dark cap, white breast, yellow cere &
legs. Loose down feather on new esc. It swoared and
flew off. Todd said he had seen the pair last week
fly over the house.
