1932 45 We drove on past the wireless station and on through a lane of cypress trees but saw only one small flock of about 40 birds in a quiet Cove. We did not drive on to the beach. All the way along there were many robins, in muddy Coves, and grassy hillsides, in wet meadows; we must have seen a thousand or more along the way. List: Eared Grebes - very abundant on Tomales Bay. W. Grebes - a few on Tomales and also on S.F. bay. Pied-billed - I think I saw birds on Tomales Bay. Comorants - many on rocks of Richmond shore and on T. Bay. Black Brant - 500-1000 on Tomales Bay. Canvasbacks - on Paradise Cove. Lesser Scaup - a few. American Goldeneyes - Groups of 12-15 in several places on Tomales Bay. White-winged Scoters Surf Scoters} Numerous on both bays. Puddy Duck. 100+ near San Rafael. Turkey Vulture - one. Sparrow Hawks - many. Red-tailed Hawk - one was, one mature. The first was seen on a telephone pole near the summit of the grade as we came down to the valley before reaching Tomales Bay. It alighted on different fence posts, then on the ground. As it flew across the road toward some trees, another bird or Tail red flew at it then flew away. Sparrow Hawk - many were seen, esp. ne. of Tomales Bay and hills above.
