30 193 Golden-crowned Sparrows came to the pool and three thrashers - one banded on left foot. Oct. 8. Two Red-tailed Hawks rose from below the tops of the pine trees at the lower end of Woes-wood Rd, a Sparrow Hawk annoying one of them. Oct. 9. Beginners Class explored the canyon near the Cordouees Club. Birds were very abundant. List: 1 Sh-Sh. Hawk, 12-15 Flickers, dozens of Cal jays - innumerable (Gambel?) Sparrows, a few Golden-crowned Sparrows and Fox Sparrows; Brown and Spotted Towhees, Green-backed Goldfinch, Bush-tits, Pc Kniglet, many Audubon Warblers. Purple Finch. Titmouse. Anna and Allen Hummers and a Western Winter Wren which we heard but did not see. In afternoon we drove to Boulder Creek. Hermit Thrush (found one that has been shot), Pc-Knight at Mrs house and large flocks of Gambel Sparrows near Felton- spent night at Santa Cruz as house is not finished. Oct. 10. Spent day at Santa Cruz & Boulder Creek (painting) and drove home in evening - cold at night. Oct. 11. Chilly all day. Oct. 12. Cold in early morning. Clouds (or fog) cleared about 9 a.m. Beautiful warm day. Faculty Bird Section went to Botanical Gardens. Birds very abundant. Saw only Anna Hummingbirds about Tobaccos which is still in bloom. List: Sleuder-tailed Mockateh, Audubon Warblers, Pc-c. Kniglet, Thrasher (heard), Virents, Bush-tits, Titmouses,
