Aug.24 Found the feathers of a Spotted Towhee in lower part of garden - Too many cats! Aug.25- Rained nearly all day. Brown Towhee still feeds young on the table. Aug.26 Clear and warm with that marvelous freshness that comes after the first rain. Lucent Warbler near the house sang constantly as if it were spring. Also Song Sparrow and Thrasher. Cooper Club meeting at which Mr. Dixon told of his experiences in Alaska and of finding the nest of the Surf Bird on Mt. McKinley - above timber line. Aug.27 Grosbeak came into trees in early morning. At 3 p.m. started to Boulder Creek which we reached about 9 p.m. - a beautiful drive - Took Mrs. Kibbe with us - Aug.28 Foggy until 10 a.m. Spent most of the morning on our lot where we watered the fruit trees. Mrs. K. and I formed Tanager, and I heard a note suggestive of Evening Grosbeaks but we could not get a satisfactory view of the birds. Two Water Thrushes were feeding on the bank of San Lorenzo Creek. Saw or heard many wood- specters, Wood Pewee, Western Flycatcher, Nuthatch, Creepers, Juncoes, Song Sparrows, Chickadees, Steller's Caly. Jays, West. B. Thrush and many W. Bluebirds. Had lunch with Miss Herritta & Miss Olive Burroughs on Mt. Hermon. Chickadees were so tame that one alighted on Mrs. Kibbe's hand and ate bread and butter.
