June 27. Put watermelon seeds on the table and before long the tit- mouse was carrying them away. Still two female quails came with their mates and three other males: I have seen no young yet, though certain actions of some of the quail make me feel pretty sure some broods are out. Warm with fog in morning. June 28, 29. Titmouse (2 of them) come for watermelon seeds. Act like the parents of the brood cared in the box. The brood seem to have disappeared. July 1--Fledged young spotted Robin in Faculty Glade. July 3. Spent an hour in Strawberry Canyon (6-7 a.m.) with Miss Bjostorvik from Denver. Beautiful day. Spotted Towhees, Vigors Wrens, Thrushes, Grosbeaks, Bush tits, Mentita, a Lutes- cent Warbler and a Voline Warbler, Anna Hummers, Flicker, Quail and Titmouse were seen. At 9 a.m. I went with Miss Hillman to Searsville Lake to the Camp Fire Girls' camp, near Pals Alto. Reached there about 1 p.m. Very hot. Could do nothing during the afternoon because of the heat. After evening saw a Green Heron on a log near our tent. After supper I took a group of girls about the camp to watch the birds and again on Sunday morning, July 4 at 6:30 a.m. Birds were very abundant. Returned to Berkeley leaving camp at 10 a.m. So many campers near the lake that I did not attempt to do birding outside of the camp ground.
