June 16. 1925. Landes at New York from S.S. Orca, Royal Mail Line,
returning from the year in Greece via Marseilles, Paris,
Cherbourg. Took about two hours to pass thru' the Customs
but were treated generously and allowed to land all our
stuff without duty. Went to Hotel Holly - Weather warm,
sometimes uncomfortably 28.
June 16-19 - During our three days stay in N.Y. I went twice
to the National History Museum, first to see the habitat
groups and later to look up literature on Birds of Greece.
Met Dr. Chapman and Mr. Chapin, also
Ordered a copy of Stresemans's Birds of Macedonia from
a shop near Madison Square - I walked from the
Museum to Fifty Ninth St. thru' Central Park but
saw no birds except House Sparrows.
I went twice also to the Metropolitan Museum where
I spent most of the time in the wonderful Egyptian
room - Hot. On July 19, we took an early train
from the Pennsylvania Raily. Station to Washington
where Mattie met us at the station. He went together to
the office of the American Friends of Greece, then to
the Mall near the Smithsonian Inst. where we sat
and visited till 4:30 p.m. when Borte joined me while
