Transcription
May 22. Cassin Vireo calling just east of house. House Wren (female) goes in
and out of box very silently - No singing male about. Killed by cats or
interested in another family? Family of titmice very active in oaks
in garden - about 7 or 8 of them.
May 24. Family of very young brush tits calling in oaks back of house.
Lutescent warbler sings constantly E.of house - a second brood
coming on?
May 25. Drove to Boulder Creek to see about water for our lot. Birds very
and abundant. Found following singing or calling on our lot - between
May 26. R.R. and river.
Snail (ps. in lower lot near river, Willow Woodpecker
in dead alders at W.end, Olive-sided Flycatcher at W.end near fence;
Wood Pewees - near bluff in center; W.Flycatcher, below bluff toward E.end;
Allen Hummingbird - E.end
Purple Finches at least 2 singing males, probably more: Black-headed Grosbeak,
2 singing males - one near house site; Song Sparrows (3); Spotted Towhees(4)
Brown Towhees(2); Green-backed Goldfinches (1 ps), W.Tanager (heard
evening of May 25, seen a.m. May 26), Warbling Vireos (2), Cassin Vireos (1),
Cedarated Warbler (1); Yellow Warbler (2); Lutescent warblers (3);
Chickadees (family or ring); Brush tit (flock 12-15 and pair); Russet.
backed Thrush (4+), 18 species nesting - 2 finished nesting, 1 magpint(Teng)
In other places found also Crested Jay, Kingfisher, Black-chuth
Harriss (and or Cabanis) Woodpecker. Calif.Woodpecker, Ash-throated Flycatcher,
Hutton Vireo, Black-throated Gray Warbler, Lazuli Bunting, Chipping Sparrow
Pine Grosbeak Hummet, Cliff Swallow, Violet-green Swallow, Oriole, Bluebird, Robin.
Total 39.
