Mar.19. Bird class went to Drumerton Bridge. Foggy in morning, clearing about noon. Then warm. Fruit trees, Judas trees, flowering shrubs in full bloom. Hills & valleys very green. Spent 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Coyote Hills where we found; Turkey Vultures (6-8), Marsh Hawks (3), Cooper Hawk (1), Red-tail (2), Pintail Ducks (6-8), Wilson Snipe (6?), Killdeer (15t), Yellowlegs (1) Flicker, Barn Swallow, Pipits, Anna & Allen Hummingbirds, Marsh Song Sparrow, Bryant's Marsh Sparrow, Linneats, Zuni Sp., Nuttall Sp., Golden-cr. Sparrow, Shrike, Tufted Wren, R-c Knight, Aud. Warbler, Meadow Lark, Brewer Blackbird, Black Phoebe, W. Yellowthroat, New-backed Goldfinch 1 Pheasant (female) and 27 Black-crowned Night Heron Lunched on hillside overlooking bay - Saw 3 Black-bellied Plovers, 1 Yellowlegs, a few Sandpipers, Meadow Larks and Shrike +1 Drove over bridge: on tidal flats many Willets, Marbled Godwits, a few Black-bellied and Semipalmated Plovers, Sandpipers and Oyster Catcher (?) In water 150 Canvas Grebes in close flock. Many ducks (Lesser Scaup only ones identified), 1 W. Grebe. Several Blue Herons over marsh - +9 Drove to Redwood City Harbor - Saw 6 Egrets. Also Red-winged Blackbirds, Robin and many gulls (W-Caly?) and Mallard Ducks (Cen. pond) Total 47. Drove home by way of S.F. Mar.22. Rain. Trip planned to Grizzly with Mr. Ralph Hoffmann and Mrs. Saunders given up - went to Lake Merritt. Few ducks left - Pintails, Baldpats, 1 Shoveller. 1 European Widgeon, a few Blue-bills, 1 Whitemargined Scoter and 3 female Golden-eyes. A few pied-billed and eared grebes and Cormorants. Very wet. Warbling Vires in oaks east of house. Yellow Woodpeckers near during past week.
