walk the twenty-five miles with the result that when we arrived at our old Cayos on the east side of Starrel Sound we were wet with sweat and clothes driven full of mud. We are now trying to dry out with both stoves going. A bear has been here, crushing in one side of the Cayos and carrying off my dog, which I left there dying a short distance. Arthio lost another dog today; so badly injured by going back under the sledge that he slipped and left him on the trail. I dropped one day before yesterday. Clums for me have lost 9. Arthio 4, N-3, E-1 and J-1. All had one killed by a musk-rat making 10 in all. Our dogs should go better tomorrow when they have digested some of their awful load. My being
