apr 25 young ice now covers the harbor and the steamers are stuck here on that coast. They may need some money if it is necessary to stay which does longer. This ice is very unusual for this time of the year. Many sick people come to see me and I have three patients in the Hospital, one with typhoid, one with scurvy. Dr Benser and I visit them twice daily. Played much chess yesterday & won all my games. There is a eskimo youth of 20 yrs who plays best in like country but lost to me all three games. Nothing heard of Hans Gyde yet. apr 26 No ship yet. Dr Bensers birthday. Ashmore brought many presents & the traders from small stations were in to see him & drink coffee. Later the Post & telegraph men were in to dinner & spend evening.
