Apr 18 Dodge sent sruit & Arfak report possible to get by umiak and we shall try that route today. Arrived at Arfak Apr 9 this evening. Walked most of way, slept on ice, very cold weather for this time of year, see moring with tide. Apr 19 Umiak came in my moring, left at 8 o'clock reached Arfak at evening, much loose ice. Difficult work. Slept in deserted eskimo house here for 2 or 3 days ago. Apr 20 left at 4 1/2 pm, retreated away frequently, reaching Stronfsord at 3 P.M. Must wait for us & open with tide, pitched tent & had seal meat, Eskimo shot small shreds seal. Have been all day in fayak.
