- May 8- Mr. Littlejohn has taken 4 or 5 Crossbills of the American form and one male whitewinged. They come down to the trees along the beach early in the morning. Several flocks of shore birds have been seen lately and specimens of Wilson Snipe, Black Turnstone, [illegible] Sand piper and Semipalmated Sandpiper have been secured. A ♀ grouse shot on May 3 contained an egg ready to be laid. She had evidently laid 3 or 4 eggs already. A ♀ Harris Woodpecker shot May 6 was evidently laying eggs as well as a ♀ Northern Red-breasted Sapsucker shot the same day. A ♀ Red-backed Chickadee shot May 7 was laying or had laid. All of the crossbills were in good breeding condition. Two Myrtle Warblers have been secured: a ♀ (laying) Ann. Merganser, Ann. Pipit and several Sandwich Sparrows as well.
