Journal Aug13 Lake Peters and I caught several char, enough for a fish dinner for the four of us. Very good weather; sunshine, few cloids and breezy at times. Saw a few new species of birds including Northern Shrike, Rock Ptarmigan, Wata Pipit, Wheatear and others more common to Barrow, such as, Arctic Linn, Brent and Parasitic jaeger. John & I rowed across the lake to climb the mountains looking for sheep. John had his telephoto lens to get as many sheep as possible- Had very good luck along with some very good shots. Pete & Charlie not back yet when we arrived at camp at 1600. We walked along the fans looking for microtus. I had already caught one just outside the cook house. Not sure as to species. Bob Murphey came in at this time. He decided to stay the night here. Charlie, John & I went fishing again at Lake Salvador, north of Lake Peters. Caught two fish, one a 30" lake trout I caught. Biggest fish dinner caught in fresh water! Charlie caught another microtus there at Lake Salvador. Our line traps this morning had been set off by squirrels. New birds seen today were rosy finches, Golden Eagle, Tree sparrow,
