August 2, 1962, Wainwright, Liz III;
Put our gear in a quonset and had some coffee. Took all
four packs out toward lines I & II. Caught a live juvenile
lemming there. Mosquitoes weren't bad near I & II, but
were very numerous around III & IV and in the area between
the two pair of lines. There was standing water in between
almost all polygons. Went back out after dinner to look
for live Diicrostonyx. Nothing moved except mosquitoes.
Did collect a netting of perhaps a Red-throated Loon;
at least it is a loon. Some sprinkling of rain.

Came back in. Sullivan in a little letus with trap specimens.
Caught 44 lemmings, only one of which is Diicrostonyx. We
wrapped them and put them in the freezer. I called ARL
and Dave Muller to send another hundred paper sacks via the
pilot. Pilot with one of Dr. Bohnsack's crew arrived just after
lunch to take me back. Returned in time to help Dave with
the colony.
August 4, 1962, Ft. Barrow, Alaska;
After checking colony, went blood sampling with Dave.
We checked the Bees Ridge but could not find any pigs. Came
back into the Barrow Area and in about three hours, collected
only 5 lemmings. Dave collected some birds, including
Gulls', Vectors and Semipalmated Sandpipers. A little
