July 27
The traps were under water or floating.
July 28, St. Barrow, Alaska;
Started on colony in the morning working on it until
noon. There had been some drizzle this morning and been
overcast all day. The wind almost continually blew
from the west. In the afternoon, Mullin, Hirst & I
went to the Point to collect, hunt ducks and see if
anything was washed up on the beach. All we ended up
with were some phalaropes & Turnstones. Dave collected.
Started to fog in about the time we left and visibility
was cut to about 100 ft. by 1700. Arrived back in time
for a few minutes of a "happy hour" for the Belyons who are
due Sunday, 29th. Finished the colony after dinner while
Hirst & Sullivan got the traps in from X14X11.
July 29, St. Barrow, Alaska;
Didn't do anything until after lunch. Had a long night,
the 28th. Worked on saunter work in colony until dinner.
About 1600, Rev told me to come to Aniology & meet
Alfred Bailey, a man named Walls & Tom Brewer. Very
interesting were some of the tidbits told by Bailey of his times
here, 41 years ago. Mullin showed him around and then went
to the village with them. Occasional drizzling all day with
fog coming in about 1900 and leaving around midnight.
