Journal July22 St. Barrow, alaska; Very pleasant morning, cooling off toward noon. Checked traps with Sullivan and then started on colony. Worked on it until dinnertime. After dinner, checked traps again. Rained hard for awhile tonight, July23. St. Barrow, Alaska; Mike is back and I suppose a flight will be going to pick up Mullen. Him arm. Checked traps this morning with Sullivan. Very windy but not too cool. Started working on colony but stopped before lunch to see Hines who had returned with Mullen- John told us stories, will be interesting to hear Mullen's version. They took 30 lemmings at the Drare along with birds. Also caught one shrew. John reported very little massing of gulls, but did see distraction displays Bottorola & Black-bellied Bows. Finished colony after lunch and in evening. Sullivan & Hines checked traps. Wind still blowing strong, becoming cloudy July24. St. Barrow, Alaska. Checked colony and talked to Mullen, briefing him on progress. Schultz received a shock, Mike Adams wants to go in a week to start on another job. This is a critical time. Perhaps Mullen can work out something whereby we can help. Sullivan and Hines processed the damples from the Drare. Tonight, line V, Y1, V14 VM3
