June 30, 1962, Central Marsh, St. Barrow; John Hines & R.T. Holme
sighted 85 of these. One was shot and put up as a specimen
by Hines.
July 2, 1962, Central Marsh, St. Barrow; About six seen
more flock; evidently were on ground until Hines
I drove by and then scattered, but as a flock.
July 4, 1962, Central Marsh, St. Barrow; Several seen in a flock of
about 10 mixed with parasitic jaegers.
July 7, Oakpik slough and immediate area, St. Barrow;
Several seen on ground and in air with parasitic jaeger.
July 8, Between ARL & Lake Skerwike, St. Barrow; a flock
of ten were seen circling the area.
July 23, Central Marsh, St. Barrow; Watched a pair near
the wind to hover directly over an area & then swoop
down low over the ground building back up height after
each dive, repeating the process constantly.
Aug 2, 1962, Liz III, Wainwright; Four seen adjacent to
the stolon in a depressed area. Were fighting over
a kill, (probably a lemming). Only time I've seen.
