Journal June 24, Pt. Barrow, Alaska; Overcast day with a slight drizzle making it seem cold. Sun came out about 11:00 for a couple of hours but is now hidden. Started working on the colony about 1:00 and finished at 4:30. In the morning, I interrupted myself a few times and took a longer lunch than usual. Not much activity in airology; Maher is working on his experiments in Longspur and Bunting incubation. Sullivan is not back from Wainwright yet. Holmes has gone to Denver to do some censoring. After the rain, Hinw and I went to set 4 lines of traps; V, VI, VII, VIII. We went across the central marsh and past Vohlsebag Slough, missing the lines completely. Doubling back, we found V + VI near Sitelka's plot and then VII + VIII. Lines VII + VIII are partially underwater and Sitelka said that these lines were to be moved at least 30 feet to one side due to the churning up of the soil and vegetation. Fog cut visibility down to one-half to one mile. It was constantly drizzling. After having left at 9:00, we returned at 24:00. Due to this drizzle, there was a little bird activity but usually of short duration. June 25, Pt. Barrow, Alaska; Clear day with a strong cold wind blowing from the NW. Sitelka checked traplines V, VI, VII + VIII. No kills. Worked on colony until lunch. Mullen pointed out several cages (??) in the warehouse for breeding cages. One
