Journal to send it running out into Mullen's Rands. The second was caught under a barrel in the lines of barrels closest to the fresh water lake road. After lunch, Hines joined us and besides succeeding in finding a few more nests, we caught 2 more lemmings, again in the same manner, one running into a burrow and another under a barrel. Day was bright & clear, would have been quite warm except for a cold breeze. All the blood samples were taken in what could be termed the 'Druma Area.' At 1500, helped Mullen process the blood samples by cleaning his glassware as he went along. Started work on the lemming colony at 1630. Gitelke, Brewer and Mullen decided to use an older list for a second animal colony for the newly arrived Mike Adams, who will use it for specific type of vegetation feeding to lemming. Finished work on lemming colony at 2030. Went with Hines to gather in traps from lines IX & X. Caught one lemming (?) on IX. Very chilly tonight (Huntus) though clear and sun shining brightly. Pectoral sandpiper flock seen last night on the fresh water lake road seemed diminished to about thirty. From what I saw of some today, the flock has spread out which would seem to mean they are just arriving. But Holmes says they are all males. Holmes also shot about a duck today. Also noticed the snowy owls were not in the area of the trap lines IX & X.
