11 June 1962. Western side of fresh water lake, Pt. Barrow, Alaska
5 seen, 4♂ 1♀.
On body of water just south of airport, 5 seen.
June 12 3♂ 4♀ 1♀ seen near the meadow lakes flying NW.
June 14, Central marsh, Pt. Barrow; about 20 individuals flying SW
June 15. Central Marsh, Pt. Barrow; 24 individuals flying south
June 16, Voth Area, Pt. Barrow; 2 individuals (pair?) seen at
various spots, never stopping for very long.
June 17, ¼ mi south of ARL, Pt. Barrow; 2 individuals, at least one was ♂,
maybe both, flying south. ♂ was displaying by throwing its back
and keeping loudly. Did this about 4 times and flew on.
June 23, 1962, 20 yds east of row of drums nearest Fresh
Water Lake Road; Nest found with 7 eggs on top
of a polygon.
July 5, 1962, 20 yds east of row of drums nearest Fresh Water
Lake Road; same nest found June 23, still has only
7 eggs.
July 7, 1962. North of "Little Freeway", ¼ mi east of Village-ARL
Road, Pt. Barrow, Alaska; nest with 7 eggs; hen easily
frightened by passing vehicle.
August 19, 1962, Drave River, Alaska; Fine seen on pond
about a half-mile from camp.
