Gavia arctica July 9, 1962, Skraovich Lake, Barrow, Alaska; While circling the southern end of the lake through the marshy areas, two were seen in the water (actually backwater). Another was seen in a small pond about a half-mile from the first two. Aug 14, 1962, Lake Peters, Alaska; Several seen at different times, usually flying north-south over the lake toward Schradin Lake. Aug 18, 1962, Dran River, Alaska; A single loon lands on a small lake just off the river, occasionally in the afternoon, but usually in the evening. Aug 15, 1962, Dran River, Alaska; The laughing cry of the loon heard very close to the tent about 0700. Was very close to Glaucon gulls and Arctic terns who were crying out.
