47 Journal 20 Aug. Valueless data (except as a pilot experiment to paint out trends and in which direction to concentrate on next time). After coffee, I went with Hank to pull in the line traps. It rained intermittently as heavy clouds passed over. After the rain, Hank and I checked the 6 lines. I dropped him at V, VI, VII & VIII while I checked the fertiliza plot lines. The road (?) out is becoming worse each time. We can make it a few more times, I suppose. 21 August Barrow, Alaska Left to check the lines by 0810. Stopped by the line plot to start a Coleman stove in the wagon where the line traps are, this is to try them so they won't mold during the winter. Very nice day, in the high 30's. Incher's group left for Peters Lake by 1300. It's been decided I would go to the Snow with a volunteer, Rick Ashley of the Bohnsack project. Can't leave until the float plane returns from Peters, probably by the 23rd. Worked on the notes for the colony for awhile before dinner. After dinner Hank & I ran the lines. A juvenile Dicrostonyx was taken in line IV. Rest of notes to be sent later from 22 August on.
