18 Aug. to the live plot after the movie
19 Aug Barrow, Alaska
Holland and I stayed with the colony work until
1430. The Schultz special diet is not working very
well. Enough animals are dying to cause inconsistencies
within the data. After 1500, Logsdon and I set
lines XIII + XIV in the fertilizer plot. The plot is
a little more wet than usual and several trapping
stations were left without traps. Mild day compared
to the freezes recently. A crisp wind from the east
is blowing softly. After dinner, Hank and I set
lines V, VI, VII and VIII while Logsdon pulled in
III A,B and IV A,B. The nights are getting darker; it
will be necessary to use weasels with lights pretty
soon.
20 August Barrow, Alaska
Logsdon is ill with tonsillitis and is going into
the village to see the doctor. Therefore, I ran the
traps this morning leaving the colony to Holland. Since
Keith Van Cleve & Dean Stanley were going to the
fertilizer plot to clip grass, I went along to check
the lines and help them. They also clipped from
Schultz's plot while I checked the other 4 lines.
We got back by noon. After lunch I helped
Holland finish the colony work. I decided to close
down the metabolic experiment with special diet
because of the frequent deaths and obvious
