41, LG63 Journal 9 Aug traps, Glenn Stanley came along to collect grass samples. We left about 1500. On the trip, we saw 2 red foxes near the ocean beach about half way down and many small groups of caribou after gossey Lizc. 9 Aug. Wainwright, Alaska Arrived at Wainwright about 1600. Hank & I carried the traps out while Glenn was sampling. It took about 1½ hours to set the 4 lines and walk back in. A 25 knot wind, cold + occasional snow flurries kept a person awake. We had dinner there and saw a [illegible] before returning about 2030. It's very wet over this area. Most troughs are filled with water but lemming sign looked good. The forage is very lush. It took 40 minutes to get back off due to a strong west wind. 10 Aug Barrow, Alaska I started the colony alone because Holland was helping Rex Pieper clip grass. Steve came in about 1500 to help. We spent the entire day on the colony quitting about 1700. Our procedures are set pretty well for the [illegible] experiment. 11 Aug Barrow, Alaska Colony work was finished easily due to no weighing & animals, the easy handling of the food and the reduced number of animals that need to be handled.
